Coastal Living Reveals Delray Beach Is Third Happiest Seaside Town In America, But We Know Better
We’d argue that Delray is No. 1, but we’ll take it.

After a dramatic countdown on Facebook Tuesday, Coastal Living magazine revealed the final results of its Happiest Seaside Town in America contest. Delray Beach came in third place, beat out by Venice, Florida, and Southport, North Carolina.

In its description of the town, the publication praised Delray’s white-sand beaches and its lack of high-rises.

“It’s an easy view across low dunes topped with bright green sea grape leaves to the sparkling Atlantic. Add to that the ribbon of Intracoastal Waterway that slices serenely through Delray’s length and it’s easy to see how good South Florida life can be,” Coastal Living writes.

Online voting for the contest opened Feb. 13, after Coastal Living editors revealed their unranked list of 10 finalist cities. Voting ended March 31.

Here’s the full ranking:
1. Southport, North Carolina
2. Venice, Florida
3. Delray Beach, Florida
4. Narragansett, Rhode Island
5. Ocean Springs, Mississippi
6. Tybee Island, Georgia
7. Monterey, California
8. Wellfleet, Massachusetts
9. Portsmouth, New Hampshire
10. Corona del Mar, California

News Flash!
Delray Beach has won a prestigious national civic award that recognizes the city’s efforts for encouraging youth literacy.

The National Civic League, a nonprofit organization founded by former President Theodore Roosevelt, for nearly seven decades has sponsored the All-America City Award. Of the 53 communities that applied for this year’s award, the civic league honored 15, including two in Florida — Delray Beach as well as Manatee and Sarasota counties, who have a joint program.
